Voor de duidelijkheid, dit is niet mijn blogpost. Maar ik deel wel de mening. De StartersBVBA is geen goede maatregel. Een maatregel waar ik wel achter sta: het StartersContract voor Gentse starters. Zie mijn blogpost van gisteren.

De StartersBVBA, vanaf 1 juni een nieuwe Belgische ondernemingsvorm, is zo’n maatregel. Een maatregel met één voordeel: in plaats van € 6200 moet je bij de oprichting van je BVBA slechts € 1 neerleggen als startkapitaal. In ruil aanvaard je als ondernemer een aantal randvoorwaarden: je financieel plan moet door een expert worden nagelezen, max. 13% van je winst mag uitgekeerd worden als dividend, …

Waarom de StartersBVBA waardeloos is.

Het is een goedkope maatregel voor de overheid, maar de vraag is of het iets uithaalt. Mijn eigen ervaringen en die van mijn fellow-jonge ondernemers lijken dit tegen te spreken.

into BPA-free Plastics, Study Says

Researchers say they have identified several classes of organic chemicals that can capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and then be used to make more environmentally benign plastics. Researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore used chemicals called imidazoliums and N-heterocyclic carbenes to couple CO2 with “epoxide” molecules to create polycarbonate plastics that can be used in a variety of applications, from drinking bottles to compact discs. Significantly, in addition to finding a use for carbon dioxide, these polycarbonates do not contain bisphenol A (BPA), a potentially harmful chemical found in most commercial polycarbonate plastics in use today. The imidazolium salts are stable enough that they can repeatedly “grab” CO2 molecules and incorporate them into larger molecules in the plastic-making process, according to a study published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science. The process also eliminates the need for petroleum in the manufacture of plastics.

The larger deployments, which are the front-line coordinators to our crawlers are serving 50+ million jobs on a daily basis (average job is several kb), without breaking a sweat. On average, each job is just several kilobytes, but the numbers add up, meaning that a pure memory system would require 60GB+ of RAM to make it work for our use case. That is where the Beanstalk ASCII protocol, good old MySQL, and a little Ruby come together to create our scheduling system: Chronos.

Begin maart verscheen er een artikel over het 'flikkerend zebrapad' van de Burggravenlaan. Dat zebrapad, met in de rijweg verwerkte lampjes die zouden moeten oplichten telkens er een voetganger nadert, werkt nog altijd niet. De reden is nogal absurd: de elektriciteitsleiding ligt er aan de verkeerde kant van de weg.

'Vandaar ons idee', zegt Jan Van Croonenburg. 'Wij stellen voor om het zebrapad te laten werken met zonnepanelen - gekoppeld aan een batterij, zodat het zebrapad ook 's nachts kan oplichten. We hebben zelf ook een schaalmodel gemaakt van zo'n installatie.'
